Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect from my first visit?
When you visit The Essence for the first time, you'll have some paperwork to fill out. It's best to arrive about 10 minutes early to ensure you have enough time to complete it before your appointment time starts. This paperwork will cover questions about your general health, your at-home regimen, and your skin care goals. Bringing a list of the products you use at home will help us to better create the perfect individualized treatment plan for you. You'll also want to stop using any products with the following ingredients three days before your treatment: Retinal, Retin-A, Benzoyl Peroxide, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid.
What if I arrive late?
Arriving late will shorten the length of your treatment, thus lessening the effectiveness and your enjoyment. Arriving more than 15 minutes late will result in the cancellation of your appointment that day. You will still be charged the full fee for the treatment.
What if I need to cancel?
You are very important to me, and I schedule my time specifically for you. 24-hours notification is required for all cancelled or rescheduled appointments. There is no fee to cancel or reschedule prior to the 24-hour window. You will be charged 50% of your treatment for canceling or rescheduling within the 24-hour period. Missed appointments will be charged 100% of the service fee. These fees must be paid in full before scheduling any future treatments.
What should I wear?
For facials, chemical peels, dermaplaning, and microderm, a spa robe will be provided for you to change into. For body treatments, it is best to disrobe completely. You may elect to wear a swim suit or undergarments for personal comfort, however you will be securely draped at all times during your treatment. Body waxing will require the area to be exposed. You can choose to remain clothed in areas that are not being waxed, or change into a spa robe for comfort. Facial waxing will be done in the clothes you come in. I always recommend comfort first!
Should I avoid treatments if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
I recommend that any treatment be first approved by your physician. Waxing may cause increased flushing or sensitivity but is completely safe for pregnancy, as are facials and dermaplaning. Body treatments require laying on your stomach. Some can be adjusted, while others should be avoided. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are not recommended while pregnant or breastfeeding.
How do I determine which facial to choose?
Most facials at The Essence are customized. This allows us to work together to address your individualized goals. A 30-minute facial will not include steam or extractions. This is great for those who want a little something, without a lot of time. A 60-minute facial is standard. This allows for cleansing, masking, steam, extractions, facial massage, and application of finishing products. The 90-minute facial is for those who need a little more. Whether you have acne concerns or prefer to be pampered, we focus extra time and attention to make sure your bases are covered! Color-Up Therapeutics' holistic CBD facial uses hemp products designed to bring the skin into homeostasis, or balance, at a cellular level. This is especially relaxing and suited for everyone. Specialty and seasonal facials will include descriptions with specific targeted goals. These options can be discussed before scheduling to ensure you are getting exactly what you're looking for.
Is there THC in the CBD facial?
Color-Up Therapeutics is a natural CBD line based out of Denver who uses locally sourced, small-batch hemp to hand-craft their products. Hemp is classified by having a THC level of less than .3%. Color-Up goes above and beyond to further extract strictly the CBD cannabinoid for use in their facial line. This means that NO, there is not THC in the facial, and NO you cannot fail a drug test by receiving this service.
Should men shave before a facial?
Shaving is recommended the day before a facial but is certainly not required. Products will be applied to areas of the face that are exposed.
I'm scheduled for a waxing appointment. How long should my hair be?
You want your hair to be grown out between 1/4 and 1/2 of an inch. This is about the length of a grain of rice. Everybody is different but most people achieve this length about 1.5-2 weeks after a shave, or 3-4 weeks after a previous wax.
Teen Policies
Young adults between the ages of 13 and 17 may enjoy facials, body treatments and waxing, with prior parental consent. Brazilian waxing will not be performed on anyone under the age of 18.
Can I book couples appointments?
Unfortunately, I can only perform one service at a time. Accommodations can be made to book back-to-back appointments with a friend or spouse, while enjoying each others company through your treatments.
